Although I've heard several other alumni comment on their disappointment regarding HU's movement "to the right," I think it is unfair that they lump the professors and students in the same category as the administration. It wasn't until my time at Harding that I discovered God's grace and missional living. I now work at another CoC college, and I can appreciate both schools regardless of their differing placemnet on the conservative/liberal scale. I enjoy your blog; thanks for endulging my tangent.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201753.post-1148267948385873302006-05-21T22:19:00.000-05:002006-05-21T22:19:00.000-05:00KateThanks for your comment. I was plagued by guilt and confusion for many years. My grandparents told my sisters and I that they were so proud of us for staying faithful to the church; our cousins were in jeporady because their parents switched to an Assembly of God after a church split. I, too, was baptised young, and I always wondered whether I was truly saved. After all, I didn't know what I was getting into or the significance of that commitment. It wasn't until I went to Harding and took a class from a much criticized man, Jimmy Allen, that I felt I could take in a sigh of relief. The first thing he said to our class was, "Now kids, if there's anything I want you to take away from this class its God's grace and undenominational faith. I came to really appreciate the spiritual journey that man initiated in my own life.
Thanks for your reflection.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7201753.post-1144425769885584072006-04-07T11:02:00.000-05:002006-04-07T11:02:00.000-05:00Great blog.I, too, have a similar background and s...Great blog.

I, too, have a similar background and sroty. The only differene is that in my former branch of the CofC ("anti"), we would have called anyone who went to Harding a "liberal." And we all "knew" liberals were going to burn forever. This particular post brought back lots of memories. In many ways some of these memories parallel with some of yours.

I think I saw that you are at White Station in Memphis. I've known Rodney P. for quite awhile and knew his Dad even longer. (I preached in Florence, Ala. at one time).Jim Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01439815249502910190noreply@blogger.com
