Ohio take note--McCain and cronies lobby against you

As McCain passes out tire gauges to mock Obama, his lobbyist laden cadre of advisors hope Ohioans don't gauge the pressure their policies have put on their prosperity. Republicans would offer that workers should just continually be retraining and moving to new parts of the country. Don't bother about government officials about actions they take that send American jobs overseas.

RealClear Politics covers a McCain townhall.

“Government is too big, he wants to grow it. Taxes are to high, he wants to raise them," McCain said. "Congress spends too much and he proposes more. We need more energy and he's against producing it. We're finally winning in Iraq, and he wants to forfeit."

McCain's criticism came before he was to travel to Wilmington to discuss possible job losses, as many as 8,000, from the proposed closure of a DHL shipping site, the result of a corporate merger aided by his campaign manager during his work as a lobbyist.

In 2003, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis lobbied Congress to accept a proposal by German-owned DHL to buy Airborne Express, which kept its domestic hub in Wilmington in southwest Ohio.

In announcing a restructuring plan in May, DHL said it planned to hire United Parcel Service to move some of its air packages, sending them through an airport in Louisville, Ky., and putting the Wilmington Air Park out of business.

Davis took a leave of absence from his lobbying practice to work for McCain, a self-styled reformer who asked his campaign staff to disclose all previous lobbying ties and make certain they were no longer registered as lobbyists or foreign agents.

The economy and job losses are important issues in Ohio, a critical swing state that gave President Bush the electoral votes needed for re-election in 2004.

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said Wednesday that Davis had not worked with DHL since 2005, long before DHL announced plans to move its work out of Wilmington. The companies merged in 2003.

At the time of the merger, no one anticipated an impact on jobs in Wilmington," Rogers said.

No one? Really?

Ever been around for a merger? Ever known anyone who didn’t know that jobs would be impacted by the merger.

Pay special attention the next part.

McCain, as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, had a role in the deal, too. He urged then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Ted Stevens to abandon proposed legislation that would have prohibited foreign-owned carriers from flying U.S. military equipment or troops, which Airborne Express said was aimed at torpedoing its merger with DHL.

Rogers said McCain opposed the bill because it could have hurt the military's airlift capabilities in a time of war.

The DHL-Airborne deal ultimately went through, despite opposition from competitors UPS and FedEx, which argued that it would violate a ban on foreign control of domestic airlines. DHL is the U.S.-based shipping unit of German postal service Deutsche Post AG.

And McCain is going to try to make Obama look like a threat to American jobs?

I continue to read your e-mails, and take hope from them. I am 5th generation member, and I last commented on March 18, 2008. I read your posts to remind myself that all church members are not hypocrites. Most church members that I know will say that it is wrong to vote for a Homosexual candidate, because homosexuality is a sin, but they have no problem voting for McCain, a man living in Adultery (According to their own definition of Adultery). If it is wrong to vote for a Homosexual, then why is it not wrong to vote for a man committing Adultery?????Homosexuality is not destroying the American family, but Adultery is. People like John Edwards and John McCain are the real threats to the American family. ------------------- I believe that the church ignores most of Jesus' teachings about the poor, especially poor children. My wife and her 3 younger sisters became homeless and destitute when my wife was 12 years old (I will not go into the painful details). State records say that my wife had assumed the role of mother to her 3 younger sisters at age 12. At age 13 my wife and her sisters went to a childrens home where they stayed until high school graduation. My wife and her sisters recieved a medicaid card, and they went to the dentist for the first time in their lives. They received free lunches at the public school they attended in the rural community where the home was located (200 children where in the home with her). When she graduated from high school, she did not have a car, job, or family safety net, but she was forced to leave the home and survive on her own. She was able to get Federal Grants and loans and go to college and live in a dorm. Today my wife is a college graduate and an elementary teacher. The programs that helped her survive like medicaid(she kept medicaid in college and had to have surgery), free school lunches and Government programs to help poor children go to college were all proposed by liberals and opposed by conservatives. Every republican Senator voted against Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. I would hate to think what my wife's life would have been like, if the conservatives had prevailed and defeated progams like medicaid, and federal aid to help poor children go to college. Of course, all of the other 200 kids my wife grew up with were helped too by liberals. My wife's best friend in the home was there because her father shot and killed her mother in front of her. Her mother died in her arms. She kept the bloody shirt she was wearing that night for years. Today my wife's friend is a teacher too, thanks to liberal programs that gave those 200 kids a chance. -----------------My wife is a devout christian and a liberal. She was raised by a village. She was outraged when conservatives recently blocked efforts to expand health insurance to poor children. At the same time, in the last year, that conservatives were blocking health insurance for poor kids, an uninsured teenage boy died of diabetes in our community. My wife had him in class in the 2nd grade. She, unlike most Church leaders, is much more upset when a child dies because he lacks health insurance, than she is by reports of homosexuality. Thanks for giving me an avenue to vent.------------- Have a good school year.
